Vintage Brass Biconical Trade Beads
This is a set of brass biconical trade beads, most likely from Cameroon and traded In Africa. The heyday of this "trade" period was from the mid-1800s through the early 1900s, when millions of these beads were produced and traded in Africa. The small bells have the Lost Wax casting design that is from the Ashanti region by the Ashanti people of West Africa. The lost wax casting process begins by making a soft mold - formerly made of gelatin, taken by impression on the plaster or clay model. After removal from the mold, the model is carefully stored. The flexible mold, held by a plaster cap, is filled with a very resistant material that will serve as a core
